About
About the BCSC Technology Department
The Technology Division supports teaching, learning, and district operations by providing reliable technology, digital resources, and technical services for students, staff, and families. As a 1:1 district, we equip every student with the tools needed to learn, collaborate, and create both in and beyond the classroom. Combined with interactive learning technologies, these resources help foster engaging, connected learning experiences across the district.
Mission
To create a flexible, productive, universally designed environment that responds to the needs and challenges of all stakeholders.
Vision
Inspiring innovative anytime, anywhere accessible learning and productivity.

Core Values
Inclusivity
We will foster collaborative decision-making by encouraging work with those inside and outside the technology department. We will respect the opinions of others and meet them where they are.
Inspirational
We will cultivate and grow good relationships across the district. We will be responsive to the needs of everyone. We will set high expectations for our team, challenge the status quo, and be proud to show the results of our work.
Reliable Communication
We will use a clear and professional tone in our communications. We will inform stakeholders of appropriate timelines and how they will be affected. We will make well-known how to seek and gain help and assistance. We will model UDL with consistent and accessible documentation.
Thoughtfulness
We will be open to and ask for feedback. We will take time to make improvements in response to that feedback.

Qustodio - Parent/Family Controls

Qustodio for Families
Qustodio is a parental-control tool that BCSC provides to families for monitoring and managing their student's BCSC-issued Chromebook outside of school hours.

What Parents Can Do
Parents can use Qustodio to:
- View activity — See websites visited, apps used, and other activity.
- Set limits — Create web filters, daily time limits, and schedules.
- Manage off-school hours — Controls apply outside of school hours only.
Qustodio can make BCSC filtering more restrictive, but it cannot bypass or make the BCSC content filter less restrictive.

Personal Device Protection
Each family can protect one personal device per child at no additional cost through our partnership with Linewize. Features include screen time controls, content filtering, app restrictions, YouTube monitoring, reporting, and more.
BCSC cannot see or access activity on personal devices. Activity remains private between the parent and child.
Need Help?
BCSC Technology does not have administrative access to Qustodio. For questions about Qustodio features, settings, or troubleshooting, contact Qustodio:
If you did not receive a Qustodio invitation, please contact your school's main office to verify the email address on file.

Google Workspace for Education is the digital foundation for collaboration at BCSC. Every student and staff member is provided with a secure account that includes essential productivity tools like Gmail, Docs, Drive, and Calendar.
How We Use It
-
The Key to Learning: Student accounts serve as the "universal login" for Chromebooks and Canvas.
-
Collaboration: Students use these tools to complete assignments, share feedback with teachers, and work together on projects.
-
Digital Citizenship: We use this platform as a safe environment to teach students how to communicate professionally and navigate the digital world responsibly.
Student Devices
BCSC provides a managed Chromebook to every K-12 student to ensure a consistent, secure, and equitable learning experience.
-
The Device Cycle: Students receive a new device in Elementary School and again in High School.
- What’s Included: Each Chromebook comes with a protective case and a power charger.
- Annual Check-in: All items (device, case, and charger) are collected at the end of the school year. Missing items will result in a replacement invoice. Students in grades 6th - 11th may participate in the Summer Take Home Program outlined here.
- Safety First: All devices are managed by BCSC and include robust content filtering to protect students online.
Device Care Guidance
- Charge your device every night with the charger that was issued with the Chromebook.
- Clean the screen with a microfiber cloth.
- If you use a cleaning spray, spray it on the cleaning cloth and not the device.
- Keep the device away from food or drinks.
- Make sure nothing is stacked on top of or placed in between the device.
- Store the device in climate-controlled spaces.
- Remove headphones carefully when you finish using them.
