Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework that informs educators on designing learning environments and delivering instruction to support learner variability while mitigating barriers to learning. Simply put, UDL is BCSC’s overarching framework for teachers to think through and design their classrooms environments and lessons to make sure they reach every student. BCSC believes that our schools, administrators, and staff must address all learners and how to improve teaching and learning for each and every learner in the district.

Positive Behavior Instructional Supports (PBIS) is a systems approach to improving school and classroom behavior among all students. PBIS is used to help staff create school-wide systems that allow them to teach and promote positive behavior among all students. BCSC currently has 5 School Resource Officers (SRO) that support the safety and security of our students and staff throughout the school corporation. Both Columbus Police Department and Bartholomew Sheriff's Department have partnered with BCSC to serve our students, staff and families through this relationship. Project-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered teaching method that involves a dynamic classroom approach where students acquire a deeper knowledge through active exploration of real-world challenges and problems. Legado Spanish Immersion Academy is a two-way immersion pathway (Pre-K through 6^th grade) offering students the opportunity to become bilingual and biliterate in English and in Spanish. BCSC is home to a number of state-recognized performing arts programs as well as community opportunities for students of all ages. BCSC’s Special Education Services are committed to helping all of our students achieve their personal best and preparing them for their futures. Our Special Education is a flexible system of leadership and support that mobilizes resources and services to enable schools, families, and community to assist children and young adults in experiencing success. BCSC offers high ability programming to elementary school, middle school and high school students. These programs depending on the level may include: Cluster grouping, multi-age classrooms, self-contained high ability classrooms, Honors classes, advanced college credit courses, or the advanced placement (AP) classes. The Senior Capstone Experience/Senior Project is a student-selected exploration of a topic which results in a research paper, a project or a product, and a presentation. The Senior Capstone Experience moves students away from departmentalized learning toward a more interdisciplinary approach, helping them to develop a variety of skills in the areas of writing, speaking, research, and documentation. C4 Columbus Area Career Connection provides career and technical education to high school students in Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson and portions of Johnson counties in Indiana. These programs help students explore their interests as well as plan and prepare for their career and/or college goals. i-Grad is a unique program embedded in Bartholomew County schools with the bold goal of achieving a high school graduation rate of 100%. iGrad serves all students with academic barriers in grades 8-12 utilizing a unique team approach to assist our students.

Bright Beginnings Early Learning Center is an Affordable, Quality, Licensed Childcare for children 6 weeks through 3 years (may turn 4 during school year). Bright Beginnings, located at McDowell Education Center, is an available childcare option for BCSC employees and BCSC parenting teens completing of their education.
