FAMILY ENGAGEMENT

In BCSC, family engagement is the collaboration among  students, families, educators, and community members to promote children’s learning and full development. This is accomplished through trusting relationships, co-created goals, shared leadership, a welcoming community environment, and fully accessible resources.

The Family Engagement Council meets monthly and is composed of caregivers, parents, teachers, administrators, and community partners who are committed to building strong family engagement practices and continuous improvement for the district. Our goals are: (1) evaluating and improving two-way communication for all families and schools, (2) increasing family support and awareness of school level opportunities for engagement, and (3) increasing family participation in district level decision-making opportunities.

Research shows that parent engagement produces the best results, ultimately benefiting students, when both schools and families have equal responsibility and opportunity to engage in the child’s learning experience. Parents and caregivers hold invaluable information and insight to children that those at the school level often miss out on. And teachers, administrators, and support staff have resources that could help families to support students outside of the classroom.

Thank you to all of the families who completed the survey during the 2024-25 school year!  The responses and feedback will continue to guide the family engagement work in the 2025-2026 school year.
