DIVERSITY COORDINATOR
Angela Michiko "Angie" Kirkham
Angie has lived in nine states and two countries. Her experiences, living and working in multiple settings, has developed her understanding of various perspectives and love of people, cultures, and travel.
She received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from IUC and completed her student teaching with BCSC. Throughout her career as an educator she has worked with families, educators, pre-service teachers and administrators to promote strong relationships among all stakeholders.
She accepted the role of Diversity Coordinator at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. Prior to that, she taught elementary grades for thirteen years, nine years at Clifty Creek Elementary. Along with an elementary teaching license she holds a dual license in ENL.
Angie is a co-author of the chapter "Supporting 'Lived Civics' " in the book Real Classrooms, Real Teachers: The C3 Inquiry in Practice edited by Kristy Brugar and Kathryn Roberts. She was the Minority Affairs Chairperson for the Indiana State Teachers Association for two years and continues to work with the state association by facilitating training on a variety of research based educational best practices.
She enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her husband and two dogs. She has a daughter who lives in Texas, a son who lives in Florida and a son whose family includes her three grandsons who live in Washington State.

Angie ha vivido en nueve estados y dos países. Sus experiencias, vivir y trabajar en diversos entornos, han desarrollado su comprensión de diversas perspectivas y su amor por las personas, las culturas y los viajes.

Le gusta viajar, leer y pasar tiempo con su marido y sus dos perros. Tiene una hija que vive en Texas, un hijo que vive en Florida y un hijo cuya familia incluye a sus tres nietos que viven en el estado de Washington.
Purpose
The Diversity Coordinator advances the district’s mission of developing expert learners by fostering a safe, welcoming culture where all students, staff, and community members feel valued and supported. Guided by the following core values:

Through intentional efforts to unite the community, the Diversity Coordinator ensures all learners and stakeholders are empowered to succeed and grow together.
Focus
The Diversity Coordinator prioritizes student success by fostering partnerships with families, staff and the community.
This includes:
- Ensuring access to research based educational practices and support for all students.
- Collaborating with families to share responsibility for student success.
- Creating safe, welcoming spaces that meet the needs of all students.
- Celebrating the unique strengths and contributions of every individual.
- Preparing students to be active, civic-minded citizens.
Through these efforts, the Diversity Coordinator unites and empowers students, families, and the community to thrive.
