BCSC Statement re: Reopening (6/26/20)
June 26, 2020
In an effort to return as many BCSC students and staff as safely as possible on the first student day, August 6, 2020, the district released a survey to families seeking input regarding reopening procedures for the 2020-2021 school year. Families were asked a variety of questions including their plans to return to school, concerns that may exist, or comments they wanted to share. Over 8,000 entries were received, one per student, representing more than 70% of the BCSC student population. The information below is a summary of the results from the survey:
● 74.6% of respondents indicated that they plan to send their child to BCSC for traditional instruction on August 6, 2020; ● When asked to identify reasons for sending their children back to school, parents primarily indicated that they have few concerns about school resuming, and that their child needs socialization, or special services and activities; and ● When asked to identify areas that were of concern, parents cited the challenges of students maintaining social distancing and the corporation’s proper cleaning and disinfecting of facilities.
The district is developing its reopening plan by using data from this survey, input from a variety of stakeholders, collaboration with the Bartholomew County Health Department, and resources from the Indiana Department of Education, Indiana State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control.
BCSC reopening plans, which will include both traditional (in-person) and online learning options, will be released on or about July 6, 2020.
