In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that many schools needed to go remote in some capacity. As a result, more students and families have some experience with a virtual school setting than before. This presented students and families with unique challenges and opportunities. Some students learned that the changes in the instructional model were not ideal for them, while others found that a virtual learning experience was exactly what they needed and found out they thrive in an online setting. One thing that we learned was that when it is designed well, a virtual learning environment can offer a significant number of benefits and opportunities for students. We are excited in BCSC to continue to offer a virtual learning option through Columbus Virtual Pathway, a pathway for you, for us, forward.

A pathway for you.

One of the primary elements of virtual learning is the ability to receive a high-quality education without having to physically go to a traditional brick-and-mortar school building each day. This feature allows students and families to develop a schedule for school that works with them and for them. 

At the center of our work at CVP is to personalize learning for our students and meet them where they are. With the help of Edgenuity, our goal is to empower students to take ownership of their learning and provide flexible options to meet their goals. Students participate in a virtual classroom from the comfort of their own homes, or anywhere else they can access the internet, using a BCSC-issued device.  CVP students can develop a schedule that works best for them and their families, rather than having to adhere to a prearranged, inflexible schedule. This personalized schedule allows students to work at a pace that makes sense for their learning.

Our teachers work to be involved in each student's learning experience and look for ways to tailor instruction to fit individual students' needs. Students can access their teachers for one-on-one support or small group virtual instruction.

We believe students thrive when they experience relationships with peers, staff, and families that generate honest, respectful and trusting communication. Columbus Virtual Pathway is committed to working with students and families to ensure that they feel connected to their school community, even if they are not physically present in our building every day. Our Advisory program provides students with an opportunity to connect with each other and their teachers on a regular basis. Through Advisory, we will build a strong community that supports one another, celebrates our successes, and provides tools and strategies that can be used now and in the future.

We meet students where they are and develop a plan to help them reach their goals. The flexibility of an online program along with the opportunities that BCSC provides for Career & Technical Education, Advanced-placement, dual credit, and more allows students to get the best of virtual and in-person instruction. The COVID-19 pandemic has left students in a variety of different places in their learning journeys and as we look to regroup, reimagine, and return to learning, CVP is a pathway forward.
