How To Request A Special Ed Evaluation
Parent Request for a Special Education Evaluation
If you would like to request that your child have a special education evaluation, you should contact your child’s classroom teacher. You can email, phone or talk to the teacher in person to let them know of your request and specific concerns. You may be asked additional questions so the principal and school psychologist have specific information about your child. After you make your initial request, the school has 10 instructional days to notify you in writing, if an evaluation is appropriate at that time. If it is determined that an evaluation is not appropriate at that time, you will be provided with steps that will be taken to support your child in school and a date when progress will be reviewed. If it is determined that an evaluation is appropriate, a school psychologist will contact you to obtain permission to proceed with the evaluation. After parent permission is received, the school has 50 instructional days to complete the evaluation and hold a case conference. The evaluation report will be made available to parents 5 days prior to the conference.
